Your Relationship with people is an essential aspect of our being. However, to have a better relationship with others, you need to recognize who you are in Christ (Your Identity) and focus on developing your inner self.
Discover your Identity in Christ
You can have a better relationship with others when you discover your identity in Christ. Growing up as a child in my father’s house, I remember this random question that my dad will always ask my younger siblings and me, which you can relate with. “Who would you want to be, and what do you want to do when you grow up”?
By default, as the oldest, my dad always expected me to respond first, while my other siblings will have time to think out their own answer. However, the outcome of the question and answer sessions were quite funny. Well, I can say that I did swap up to three or more different professions/careers depending on what influenced my thoughts and reasoning at any given season.
For example, I frequently visited a hospital and saw the level of respect doctors command were factors that made me want to become a doctor. So my answer to the meeting with my father would reflect. A few months later, I’ll begin to build another career to become a pastor in my imagination just because I’d seen my pastor preach each time we went to church, but then it will fizzle away with time. I remember holding this one desire for a long time, and that was to be a lawyer. I kept saying that it was my last career desire/choice ever.
Please permit me to interrupt this idea of what you think about yourself and what you want to achieve for yourself. Do you know that real beauty is not what you see from the outside, but the unseen, called the foundation? Every child is a mystery that needs to be unraveled. The earlier you catch the revelation of your child, the better you will begin to help shape their minds to set them on the right track to destiny.
Paramount among the roles we play as parents are the role of soul shapers. God instructed us in Deuteronomy 6:5-7,”…These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road. When you lie down and when you get up. “God already knows our children and us just like he said In Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Another way to have a better relationship with others is to
Focus on developing your inner self
When you focus on developing your inner self, it will help you have a better relationship with others. I know there is a great attention shift in our world today. It makes people focus more on the outside (pleasure, rave for beauty) than the inside (the mind, the heart). We focus on people instead of God. We celebrate human approval even when we know that it is devoid of God’s approval. God interrupted Jeremiah to set him on the right track.
In those early days of our marriage, I remember when life was blurry, and the future was uncertain. After a long time trying to keep up with people’s expectations, my wife felt left behind. She gave up and finally plugged into the Source of destiny, and she began to see herself just as God sees her.
She embraced who she is and who God has made her. As if on a clue, everything around her started changing. She is still a work in progress in the hands of the lord, but we always marvel at how much God has accomplished within a short period of time. The act of letting go and letting God is always the beginning of a new thing.
The scripture said in John1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Surrendering your life to Christ is the first step that brings you into the kingdom. But then allowing God to disciple and make you become a son/daughter is the real deal.
You are not left alone to figure out life by yourself. God is always available to direct and make you become a true son of the kingdom and help you develop a better relationship with others. Do not allow your struggles today, pain, people, or even experience label you with the wrong identity.
God plans to give you an expected end, and those that laughed at you will come back to celebrate you. Don’t fight anybody pushing you down today. Trust me; they will be the same people that will celebrate you tomorrow.
Do not try to be somebody else other than that woman or man of God that God has called you to be. You are who God says you are
