5 Ways to Improve Communication in your Marriage

Initially, I faced a lot of trouble in our marriage while communicating my thoughts to my husband. I wanted him to understand what I felt and empathize with me, but somehow that connection was not there. But with time, God made me realize that I had to work towards improving communication between us. I learned that good communication is the key to a happy marriage.

Listen

A relationship is all about giving and taking. I realized that I did not actually listen to what my husband had to say, and when I did, I could see marked changes, and the gap between our communications had started to bridge. Communication is one of the vital keys to every successful relationship. Basically, human beings are moved by words and actions well-communicatedProverbs 15:1 says,” A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Be honest

The Holy Spirit always teaches us to be honest with everyone. You must always be truthful even regarding petty matters. I had to learn to be open and transparent with my husband, even when it came to little stuff.

Discuss your problems

Lack of communication does not happen in a day. If you let your problems stay closed up in a box, they will pile up, and communicating with your partner will become even more difficult. Eph 4:26-27 reminds me And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, or anger gives a foothold to the devil. When we let our problems stay closed up in a box, it could be an avenue the enemy would come into our hearts and find things that can make us angrier towards our spouse.

Compliment and respect each other

“However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.” – Ephesians 5:33. I realized through God that respecting the other person will pave the way for open communications.

Be grateful for their love.

You must be grateful for everything in your life, including the love of your partner.

I cannot thank God enough for showing me the right path, and today I am happy in my married life and have established a great emotional connection with my husband.
